161st Commencement Held at Elmira College
Elmira College celebrated the graduation of 226 students during its 161st Commencement on Sunday, June 2 at the First Arena, Elmira. The exercises included 204 undergraduate and 22 graduate degrees.

MU Students Participate in PittCon Convention
A group of students from Mansfield University attended the 2019 PittCon annual convention in Philadelphia on March 21, 2019. PittCon (which stands for Pittsburgh Conference on Analytical Chemistry and Applied Spectroscopy), is the world's leading conference and exposition on laboratory science. Attendees are from over 90 countries and include scientists of every type from industry, academia, and government, which rotates its location yearly. Dr. John Williams, Chemistry, accompanied the 13 students to the conference, held in Philadelphia this year. The students were able to see a wide variety of instrumentation and laboratory equipment as well as make contacts with potential employers.

Wilkes University Students Participate in Alternative Break Trip to Costa Rica
Sixteen Wilkes University students participated in a LEAP-AB trip to Costa Rica March 2-9. LEAP-AB stands for Leadership, Education, Advocacy, and Partnerships-Alternative Break, coined by student leaders in 2016. The students learned about the intersection of ecotourism development and ecology by visiting a number of environmentally sensitive sites in the Guanacaste province of Costa Rica. Students also completed community service with park rangers at Rincon de la Vieja National Park, maintaining hiking trails around the park. Students were also able to observe many species of flora and fauna in their natural habitat.

Mock Trial Team Finishes Strong in Inaugural Season
Elmira College's Mock Trial Team ended its inaugural season with trial wins and an individual award for "Outstanding Attorney" in a recent American Mock Trial Association ("AMTA") regional competition in State College, Pennsylvania.

Bloomsburg University Forensics Team Third at Recent Competition.
The Bloomsburg University Forensics (Speech and Debate) team won the 3rd Place Team Sweepstakes Award out of 12 schools at the CFA/Harold Cox Speech and Debate Tournament held at Wilkes University on Feb. 1-2, 2019. Six out of eight BU students participating in the tournament won speech and debate awards. Bloomsburg competed against St. Joseph's University, George Mason University, Rollins College, Lynchburg University, Shepherd University, Bryn Mawr College, Liberty University, Wilkes University, Misericordia University, Trinity College, and Luzerne County Community College.

BU Third at Collegiate Forensics Competition
The Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania forensics team captured the third place Sweepstakes Award at the Collegiate Forensic Association's annual fall tournament held at Shepherd University in Shepherdstown, W.V. on Oct. 19-20, 2018. Eleven out of the 18 BU students won awards, including first and second place in parliamentary debate in a field of 21 teams. Amy Bitar took second in the dramatic duo with Tarah Kelley; was third in place declamation; fourth in persuasive speaking; and fifth in pentathlon. Alli Robbins was second in persuasive speaking, second in after-dinner speaking; and sixth in parliamentary debate with Adam Phillips. Adam Phillips was sixth in parliamentary debate with Alli Robbins. Noah Roux took first place parliamentary debate with Thomas Weber; first in best speaker parliamentary debate (out of 42 speakers); and was fourth in Lincoln-Douglas debate. Tarah Kelley was second in dramatic duo with Amy Bitar; third in persuasive speaking; sixth in Poetry; and sixth in Pentathlon Katarina Solovey was fifth in poetry Katie Rose took fourth place communication analysis Thomas Weber took first in parliamentary debate with Noah Roux (Out of 21 teams); was fifth in best speaker parliamentary debate (out of 42 speakers); and sixth in communication analysis. Shawn Edwards was second in parliamentary debate with Eric Musgrove. Eric Musgrove was second in parliamentary debate with Shawn Edwards. Andrew Kline was fifth in Lincoln-Douglas debate. Also competing for Bloomsburg University were Emme Reiser, Julia Pittre, Alyssah Dombek, Bradley Bohm, Isaac Osborn, Jonathan Roe, and Taylor Baker. Neil Strine, Ph.D., director of forensics, and Michael Martin, Ph.D., associate professor of English, served as speech and debate judges for Bloomsburg at the tournament. Erin Brummett, Ph.D., assistant professor of communication studies, assisted with coaching students on the team.
